Democrats Make Suggestions for Coronavirus Rescue Package to Aid Federal Workers

April 16, 2020

House Democrats, Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) and Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), have made several proposed additions to the Coronavirus Rescue Package for Federal employees and contractors. An article by Federal News Network discusses priorities laid out by Democrats and their reasoning behind it each proposed item.

Proposed additions included childcare reimbursements, flexibility with health insurance plan enrollment, and clarifications for work from home policies. The article by FNN quotes the letter written by Maloney and Connolly stating, “Despite Office of Management and Budget guidance urging agencies to maximize the use of telework for all federal contractors, many agencies still require contractors to report to their offices to perform work that can be done remotely.” Maloney and Connolly went on to say, “This mandate would require agencies to provide periodic reports to Congress regarding instances in which the agencies deny contractor requests for telework and to justify such denials.”
